25 Things

I'm in the mood to do one of these forward things. I'm curious to see if I'm all that interesting or not...hopefully my 25 things are somewhat interesting.

1. I am wedding obsessed and am desperately trying to find a way that I can incorporate my bargain wedding talents into a future career. It's hard to make much money helping poor brides like me though. But I'm working on some ideas.

2. Dan and I would like to have three children. We know we want to name our first boy Ronan. And I want his middle name to start with a 'W' so I can call him R-Dub. That part is kind of a joke but kind of not. We're not sure on girls names yet. I suppose we have some time ;)

3. I could probably eat sushi everyday and never get tired of it. And once I tried to think of a list of foods I don't like. I couldn't think of anything. I'm not the biggest fan of mushrooms, but that's pretty much it. I discovered I hate cow tongue, but who eats cow tongue (Dan!)? So that doesn't count.

4. We have a kitten named Butters (yes...we named him after South Park...awesome, right?). He has an annoying kitten habit of waking me up by crying in the morning around six (I should be getting up for work anyway) and attacking our toes. But he is precious, and he lets me hold him like a baby and rub his belly while he purrs. He's also getting chubby, we're kinda worried.

5. I don't watch much tv, but I do have a couple of favorite shows. My list: The Office, Top Chef, So You Think You Can Dance and Fringe. Hmm...that's a nicely balanced list.

6. My favorite hobbies:
  • Racquetball
  • Snowboarding
  • Hiking
  • Cooking and Baking
  • Wedding Planning (seriously)
  • Reading
  • Riding my vintage bicycle

7. My lack of geography knowledge is atrocious. Did you know Kazakhstan is so huge? Ya and so is Alaska and Indonesia...had no idea. Yes, and I once asked some of my kids I used to work with, "Can you name the two countries that are also continents?" Dan looked at me funny but let me continue. They shouted out Australia but then the kids were also confused. I told them, "Come on guys. What about Russia?" Yes, I said that. For how smart I am, I'm really dumb. But my office is filled with maps, so I'm starting to get better.

8. My all-time favorite book is The Giver by Lois Lowry. My mom got me a signed copy, she's awesome.

9. Speaking of my mom, I think it's neat that my mom is my best friend. Any my other very bestest friend is Lindsey Lu. And I am extremely close with my dad and lil bro Jonny. Dan and I are extremely close with all of our family. If we're on the phone, it's either with each other or a family member. I love it that way, we're so lucky.

10. I can and often do only function on a couple hours of sleep a night for several weeks at a time. But then again sometimes I can fall asleep at a party or some other embarrassingly public place at way too early in the night. I've fallen asleep at every Lord of the Rings movie I've been dragged to. Dan and I even fell asleep through part of CATS while watching it at Gammage. Super embarrassing.

11. I believe in the pay it forward idea. I hope that in small ways I have made an impact on strangers' lives and hopefully I can continue to make bigger and bigger impacts.

12. I have bad habits of tying my hair into knots (Dan loves to knock 'em out) and biting/picking my nails.

13. I prefer to dye my own hair. Maybe I wouldn't say that if I had more money, but I think I do a better job than a salon would. I don't have much of a clue of how to highlight hair, so occasionally I will let a salon do that. And I get my hair cut at a beauty school. I'm not too picky about my hair, and I love change. This keeps it all affordable.

14. I suck royally at toasting bread. I always, always burn it. I think I'm too much of a multi-tasker to be patient enough to correctly toast bread. It makes Dan laugh. There's something else ridiculously easy to cook that I always mess up, but I can't remember what it is. This isn't it, but I also suck at making pancakes. They're always undercooked inside, but I still eat them. And once I cooked a pizza in the oven with the cardboard underneath it, it lit on fire. I also lit a travel coffee mug on fire a couple Christmases ago because I put it in the microwave. I'm a pretty decent cook, but I am horrible at cooking the easiest things.

15. I really, really miss my old puppy dog Opie. He died not even a month before Dan and I started dating, and I have always regreted that Dan did not get to meet him. I still get really upset when I think about him. He was such a special part of my family. Dan is very, very good about being sensitive about the situation and cheering me up.
Aside from how amazing his personality was, he was also an incredibly unique and attention getting dog. He was a Saint Bernard-Great Dane mix (Harlequin Dane...it's what gave him is Dalmatian looking spots) and weighed 180 lbs. His mom looked like Beethoven. He was taller than most men standing on his hind legs. And we actually did own a saddle for him since so many people made jokes about it.

16. I believe that good things happen to good people. I believe in karma. I believe in fate. I believe in the good of humanity. I believe I can make a difference. I believe I can change the world.

17. Along the same lines of the previous entry, I can be naive about the world around me. Sometimes I am not suspicious of people when I should be. I often give the benefit of the doubt when perhaps I shouldn't. I'm trying to get better without becoming cynical. I think it's really hard to find a balance, but I would prefer to be duped rather than think the worst in people.

18. I love and miss San Francisco. I need to live there someday, so I can have a better reason to explain my obsession. I feel like a fake San Franner since I really have no claim to it. Haha, I'm a wannabe.

19. I have a routine of checking the same websites everyday, several times a day. The list includes: my Gmail account, my work email, Google Reader (to see what family blogs are new), Facebook Pictures and reading Freakonomics. You will also see me on Pandora everyday. I also have certain WSJ and NYTimes updates sent to me, so I can keep up on what's current. Oh and I also have FailBlog updates sent to me, always exciting when I see that email in my inbox.

20. Favorite all time band: The Eagles. I much prefer the music I grew up on to the music that exists nowadays. Among my favorites: Queen, Eric Claption, Aerosmith, Elton John and Guns N Roses. But of the music nowadays, I love The Postal Service, Jimmy Eat World, John Vanderslice, Cake, Maroon 5, Michael Buble, The Format and Death Cab For Cutie. Let me tell you, the Cake station on Pandora is amazing. It will bring you back to some of the most amazing '90s music.

21. In all the years that I have lived in Phoenix (my whole life) and been a Suns fan (my whole life), I have only been to one Suns game. My dad just took our family this year following Christmas...my first time.

22. I don't speak like a lady. I swear too much, fumble my words, use very un-PC terms such as retard and go where most people wouldn't in a conversation. I think I say what people want to say or are thinking but won't actually speak outloud. Eh, I'm ok with it.

23. I'm a major procrastinator, especially with anything that consists of writing. I'm a half-decent writer but very slow and not so confident. I've been working on my thesis lately; I've actually really enjoyed it. I actually haven't done much of the writing of it (go figure), but for a first I'm not procrastinating (well I kinda procastinated up until this point). My thesis is cool though...I'll let you read it if you ask come beginning of April when it's completed.

24. The perfect date: Riding our bicycles to Tempe Town Lake on a cooler, spring night with a picnic basket of delicious cheeses, fruits, tempenades, olives and crackers and a bottle of Mondavi dessert wine, cuddling under a blanket, chatting, relaxing, people watching. I am particularly fond of Tempe Town Lake since Dan proposed to me there just over a year ago.
OR
A delicious San Francisco dinner and walking through the town. It's really hard to beat a San Francisco dinner, that's why I had to write two perfect dates. Plus, one won't be happening anytime soon, unfortunately.
A close runner up to these two above would be a night of sushi. It's pretty sad that all of my "perfect dates" are centered around food, but I really enjoy when Dan and I find real quality cuisine. We like savoring it, discussing it and making an evening out of it.

25. Numbers
  • 1 - The number of siblings I have...just Jonny. But Darrin is pretty much my younger brother too.
  • 02.14.05 - The day Dan first told me he loved me.
  • 3 - The number of Bs I have ever gotten in school. One shouldn't count (Mr. Tutt), it was totally lame. The other two I definitely earned. Worth it!
  • 4 - The pieces of jewelry that Dan has given me. First a stone ring from Mexico. Then a diamond penant necklace and a pearl ring (the reason I love pearls). Finally, the best for last, a beautiful, custom-designed diamond engagment ring. He loves me!
  • 5 - My favorite number, my volleyball jersey number and the year I graduated high school (2005)
  • 10:01 - The time I was born the morning of May 6, 1987
  • 11 - The number of states I've been to: Arizona (duh), California, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Texas, Nebraska, Louisiana, Florida, New Jersey and New York.
  • 12 - The number of piercings I have. Most of them are in my ears, and I don't wear earrings in them. And no secret piercings to be worried about, all normal.
  • 18 - The number of years my parents have been very happily married.
  • 19 - The number of flowers I have that represent the number of times I have been to Mexico. The actual number might vary, I may have forgetten to buy flowers a couple of times. Come end of May I will get to add another flower when we go on our Honeymoon
  • 22 - Dan's favorite number and his basketball number
  • 50 - The number of months Dan and I will be together on February 21
  • 136.22 - The dollar amount we pay for HOA...ridiculous!
  • 264 - The number of people invited to our wedding...how did it get so big?
  • 1,119 - The number of pictures (I know about) of me on Facebook

Wow, so much to comment on.
* The same things you check daily are my same things, with a few exceptions.
* I love all your favorite numbers. Interesting.
* I think my parents dogs are a huge part of my life. It's said Matt doesn't like dogs as much, he is coming around.
* Somehow you need to get rid of that HOA!
* I love that you are so closet o family, it makes life fun!
*Matt loves food too. He wishes I would become more interested in it. I like to eat it but he likes to find out how things were made.

I guess thats enough to comment on. Very interesting Cassie!

Oh, P.S. Matt and I had around 400 people to invite to our wedding, its horrible when you've lived in the same place for so long!
